Programs for Adults

Tuesday5-13Book Discussion and Brown Bag Lunch on Tuesday, May 13, at 12:00 p.m. Join Librarian Lisa Ragano in our Town Hall location as we discuss the novel Loving Frank by Nancy Horan. "This graceful, assured first novel tells the remarkable story of the long-lived affair between Frank Lloyd Wright, a passionate and impossible figure, and Mamah Cheney, a married woman whom Wright beguiled and led beyond the restraint of convention. It is engrossing, provocative reading." —Scott Turow

Tuesday6-10Book Discussion and Brown Bag Lunch on Tuesday, June 10, at 12:00 p.m. Join Librarian Lisa Ragano in our Town Hall location as we discuss the book Farm Sanctuary by Gene Baur. Perhaps you should bring something vegetarian in your brown bag. In Farm Sanctuary Gene Baur highlights the appalling conditions billions of animals are forced to endure in factory farms -- in order to produce more meat more cheaply in the shortest possible time. His descriptions of the courageous battles fought by many individuals to end such practices are touching.

If you thought the true gothic novel died with the nineteenth century, this will change your mind... This is one gorgeous read.
(Stephen King)
…rush right out to the nearest bookstore and pick up The Shadow of the Wind.
(Michael Dirda, The Washington Post)
Wondrous... masterful... The Shadow of the Wind is ultimately a love letter to literature...
(Entertainment Weekly, Editor’s Choice)
‘Gabriel García Márquez meets Umberto Eco meets Jorge Luis Borges’ for a sprawling magic show.
(Richard Eder, The New York Times Book Review)

Info Anytime 24 hour librarian service

24/7 Internet-Based Librarian Reference Service Now Available

Greenburgh Public Library patrons can now turn to a trained professional librarian to answer questions 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The Library’s new virtual reference tool, InfoAnytime, provides a live connection to a reference librarian who answers questions in real time. Greenburgh is the first library in Westchester County to offer this service.

Simply by going to InfoAnytime, patrons can connect live to a reference librarian who can help them answer just about any question anytime. “Our new virtual reference service offers our patrons the ultimate reference service,” Eugenie Contrata, Acting Library Director says. “From the convenience of their home or office computers, patrons can be instantly connected with a live reference librarian who will work with them to answer their questions then and there.”

This new service is as easy to use as any instant messaging service, but packs in a lot more features. The patron and the librarian can simultaneously browse web pages, librarians can send electronic files or articles to patrons directly without using e-mail, and the service provides direct access to all the library’s extensive databases and electronic collections.

Patrons can also enter a username and password which will allow them to return later and access a transcript of their session in case they forget a citation or article. Everything, including direct links and copies of files, will be stored and can be accessed for months. The service is staffed by trained, professional reference librarians provided by New York-based Tutor.com.
