Remember to fill out your Adult Summer Reading Challenge Form!  Why Should Kids have all the Reading Fun this Summer?

Remember those winter storms we thought would never end? As I wipe my brow at 7:30 a.m. with temps aiming to be close to 95 degrees...  Are you like me and wish the Library had a pool out back?

Pools are synonymous with summer reading!  There's nothing like lounging on a blanket or a beach chair, or simply having your toes in the water while reading the latest Danielle Steel or Daniel Silva

After you stop by the library for your summer reading books head on over to Anthony F. Veteran Park to cool off.  Located at 11 Olympic Lane in Ardsley; it is less than 4 miles from the Greenburgh Public Library.  Anthony Veteran's Pool and the Multipurpose Center are my third recommendation for the best places to read in Greenburgh.

Previous selections have been Ridge Road Park and Harts Brook Park & Preserve

Did you know?

At the Greenburgh Parks Department, there are 7 swimming pools including camp pools,  children’s pools, a play area and equipment for young children, basketball courts, handball/paddle ball courts, 19 tennis courts a fabulous food concession, and  Multipurpose Center.

Check me out reading on the patio at the Multipurpose Center!

Why is the Greenburgh Town Pool a great place for Reading?

On a sunny day in the summer I bet you could find  10 people you know at the Anthony Veteran's pool, With so much activity, there might very well be too many distractions.  However, it still stands as a great place to get inspired by everyone's story.  Through conversation, you'll hear and see what people around you are reading.

With a dramatic splash of water... (more apropos versus a drum roll...)

I present my list of books for you to check out at the library.  Remember you can download a free ebook from the library as well.

Night over Water is set in September 1939. England is at war with Nazi Germany. In Southampton,  the world's most luxurious airliner—the legendary Pan Am Clipper—takes off for its final flight to neutral America. Aboard are the wealthiest and the poorest of society, all fleeing the war for reasons of their own . . . shadowed by a danger they do not know exists . . . and heading straight into a storm.

This classic love story Like Water for Chocolate takes place on the De la Garza ranch, as the oppressive owner, Mama Elena, chops onions at the kitchen table in her final days of pregnancy. While still in her mother's womb, her daughter to be weeps so violently she causes an early labor, and little Tita slips out amid the spices and fixings for noodle soup. This early encounter with food soon becomes a way of life, and Tita grows up to be a master chef, using cooking to express herself and sharing recipes with readers along the way.

This gem-of-a story is set in the Great Depression and for Jacob, the main character, the circus was both his salvation and a living hell. As Water for Elephants unfolds, he meets Marlena, the beautiful equestrian star married to August, the charismatic but brutal animal trainer. And he met Rosie, an untrainable elephant who was the great hope for this third-rate traveling show. The bond that grew among this group of eccentrics was one of love and trust.

Anita Shreve penned a dozen great titles before passing away earlier this year.  She had an undeniable gift for storytelling, as evidenced by the popularity of her novels. The strength of her tale lies in fertile and seemingly endless variations of the human condition. The Weight of Water is finely balanced between action and emotion.

With unreliable characters, wry voices, exquisite pacing, and a twisting plot, Steadman potently draws upon her acting chops in Something in the Water . . . . A darkly glittering gem of a thriller from a new writer to watch.

Into the Water is a  captivating contemporary whodunit… suspense churns and the plot keeps you guessing.

Let me know what you think about the selection of the Anthony F. Veteran Park and its tremendous facilities as a great place to read!  Check out the reading recommendations and be certain to fill out a form for the Adult Summer Reading Challenge.

Look out for my next selection for Best Places to Read in Greenburgh!  To be revealed on Monday, August 20th.
