For teens and the adults that love them

At Greenburgh Public Library we are proud to field two

Westchester Library System Battle of the Books teams, one for teens and one for kids. Battle of the Books is a book-basted trivia tournament for Westchester County youth. Our team members are bright, hardworking students who commit themselves to months of reading and preparation all with the goal of competing as a team at the Westchester County Tournament each October.

Battle of the Books goes beyond the typical framework of organized activity

for teens and aims to expand, enlighten and enrich the teen experience. By including exceptional, diverse and sometimes challenging works of writing Battle of the Books goes beyond a simple trivia competition and encourages teens to explore new genres, stretch their reading levels, and be adventurous.

  • Inspire teamwork and encourage good sportsmanship in an atmosphere of friendly competition
  • Expand teen social circles - Meet and make friends with like minded teens with mutual passions of reading and trivia
  • Allow teens to expand their worlds through the exploration of fun and fine literature
  • Promote a love of reading
  • Enrichment - A great extracurricular activity that supplements and enhances traditional educational experiences
  • Expose teens to titles and authors they may not encounter otherwise
  • Encourage teens to think of their public library as a resource for entertainment
